Angola Climate
Climate of the 20th Century by William Burroughs, Toward the end of the twentieth century, it became evident to professionals working within the meterological arena that the world's climate system was showing signs of change that could not be adequately explained in terms of natural variation. Since that time there has been an increasing recognition that the climate system is changing as a result of human industries and lifestyles, and that the outcomes may prove catastrophic to the world's escalating population. Compiled by an international team formed under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Climate: Into the 21st Century features an unrivalled collection of essays by the world's leading meteorological experts. These fully integrated contributions provide a perspective of the global climate system across the twentieth century, and describe some of the most arresting and extreme climatic events and their effects that have occurred during that time. In addition, the book traces the development of our capabilities to observe and monitor the climate system, and outlines our understanding of the predictability of climate on time-scales of months and longer. It concludes with a summary of the prospects for applying the twentieth century climate experience in order to benefit society in the twenty-first century. Lavishly illustrated in color, Climate is an accessible acccount of the challenges that climate poses at the start of the twenty-first century. Filled with fascinating facts and diagrams, it is written for a wide audience and will captivate the general reader interested in climate issues, and will be a valuable teaching resource. William Burroughs is a successful science author of books on climate, including Weather (Time Life, 2000), and Climate Change: A Multidisciplinary Approach (2001), Does the Weather Really Matter? (1997) and The Climate Revealed (1999), all published by Cambridge University Press.
Climate Change: Causes, Effects and Solutions by John Hardy, This book addresses civilization s most important environmental challenge: climate change. Burning of fossil fuels has greatly increased the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases, trapping more of the sun s energy near the Earth s surface. In response, our planet is warming at an unprecedented rate, and ecosystems are already changing. Modern industrialized economies depend largely on the combustion of coal, oil and gas. However, if current greenhouse gas emission rates continue, altered temperature and precipitation patterns will seriously impact ecosystems and human welfare. Many nations have adopted policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but a comprehensive and effective international climate treaty remains part of a continuing debate. "Climate Change: Causes, Effects, and Solutions, is divided into three main sections: Climate Change: Past, Present, and Future; Ecological Effects of Climate Change; Human Dimensions of Climate Change. It presents an accurate account of what we do and do not know about climate change. Key features of this book include: A comprehensive analysis of both the science and policy issues of climate change A clear description of the causes of climate change Documentation of the predicted effects of climate change on ecosystems, agriculture, sea level, human health and infrastructure A range of case studies from North America, Europe, Australasia, and elsewhere A discussion of proposed actions at the individual, national and international levels to reduce climate change or its impacts This book is an ideal text for courses in global climate change, or as a supplement to courses in environmental studies, natural science, climatology, or physical geography. Additionally, it is essential reading for journalists, environmental policymakers, and everyone who seeks to understand the consequences of climate change and the steps we must take to sustain a livable planet.
Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research - The Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research, which is part of the Met Office, provides a focus in the United Kingdom for the scientific issues associated with climate change. The main aims of the Hadley Centre are to understand physical, chemical and biological processes within the climate system and develop state-of-the-art climate models which represent them; to use climate models to simulate global and regional climate variability and change over the last 100 years and to predict ... World climate research programme - The World climate resarch programme (WCRP) was established in 1980, under the joint sponsorship of International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization and also been sponsored by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO since 1993. The objectives of the programme are to develop the fundamental scientific understanding of the physical climate system and climate processes needed to determine to what extent climate can be predicted and the extent of human influence on climate. National Liberation Front of Angola - Frente Nacional de Libertação de Angola (National Front for the Liberation of Angola), a political movement in Angola. FNLA was founded in 1957 as União das Populações do Norte de Angola (Union of the Populations of Northern Angola). Climate Audit - Climate Audit is a blog run by Stephen McIntyre, a mining and mineral exploration specialist who beginning in 2003 has published several papers in climate research journals questioning historical reconstructions of climate change. The blog is devoted to the exploration of climate change related data and interpretations, with an emphasis on criticism of multiproxy reconstructions of past climate from a statistical perspective, especially the reconstruction of Mann, Bradley and Hughes, which was used as the centerpiece of the IPCC Third Assessment ...
