Algebraic coding theory has in recent years been increasingly applied to the study of combinatorial designs. This book gives an account of many of those applications, together with a fairly thorough general introduction to both design theory and coding theory, developing the relationship between the two areas. The first half of the book contains general background material in design theory, including symmetric designs and designs from affine and projective geometries, and in coding theory, including coverage of most of the important classes of linear codes. In particular the authors provide a new treatment of the Reed-Muller and generalized Reed-Muller codes. The last three chapters treat the applications of coding theory to some important classes of designs, namely finite planes, Hadamard designs and Steiner systems, in particular the Witt systems. The book is aimed at mathematicians working in either coding theory or combinatorics - or related areas of algebra. The book is, however, also designed to be used by non-specialists and can be used by those graduate students or computer scientists who may be working in these areas.

Area code 917 - Area code 917 is the standard cellular/pager/voicemail phone area code for all boroughs of New York City and is an overlay to 212 and 718. Currently, 917 is also being assigned to land lines.

Area code 646 - Area code 646 was a controversial new overlay in Manhattan - created because Area code 212 and Area code 917 were running out of numbers. Many New Yorkers rebelled at the idea of a different area code, and for a time it was considered that "real" New Yorkers had 212 phone numbers.

Area code 305 - Area code 305 was the default area code in the state of Florida, and still currently serves all of Miami-Dade County and the Florida Keys, including Miami and Key West. The area code is also overlaid by area code 786, but only in Miami-Dade County and not in the Keys portion of Monroe County; the mainland portion of Monroe County is served by area code 239.

Area code 507 - Area code 507 is the telephone numbering plan code for the southern 1/5th of Minnesota, including cities such as Rochester, Mankato, and Austin. It was the third area code created for use in the state in 1954, following the original Area code 218 and Area code 612.
